A Smarter Tomorrow

Our driverless car system will integrate well with central Manchester due to a number of car parks in the area which can be changed to suit a different purpose. The railways run through central Manchester and provide a convenient way for people to get picked up from the station as opposed to travelling to a bus stop. This route covers the entirety of Quay street. There are multiple smart charging ports surrounding this street as well smart waiting bays.

Why Manchester?

Manchester is the 9th largest city in the UK. Manchester central library, the Albert hall and the Radisson blu hotel are all in close proximity to Quay Street. The street currently had 2 average sized lanes.  The Manchester city council has announced plans to add a cross city centre bus to connect communal areas in the centre of the city. Our project not only allows people to better travel to their destination but produces little to no emissions in comparison. Our driverless cars will be electric meaning there is no fuel required. Busses, and even hybrid busses, produce a lot of emissions.

Challenges

The city centre in Manchester gets quite busy due the narrower than normal roads and the large amount of cars parked on the side of road. Driverless cars alleviate this problem by introducing smart parking bays where people can request or leave a driverless car. The introduction of driverless cars allows an extra lane to be occupied by cars.
